Stephen George a.k.a Mr Burnside

I’m a Dorset born Photographer and Woodcarver, now living on the north coast of Caithness, Scotland, a few miles from John O’Groats.

I’m surrounded by big skies, wild seas, ruined castles, abandoned crofts, and the Aurora Borealis during the winter months. When I’m not taking photos of this exciting landscape, you’ll find me tucked away in my workshop, attempting to carve the next masterpiece!

My Father was a boat builder when I was growing up, so I’d spend many an hour in his shed, whittling with his offcuts and trying to not lose my fingers! . In my teens, writing music became my main focus, but having spent many years gigging, writing & recording, I heard my chisels calling. By this time, photography had also become a passion.

I’ve been holidaying in Scotland since I was a child, and would never want to return home. So in 2018, my wife & I bought Burnside Cottage B&B to escape from the rat race and to give me the chance to focus on my photography and wood carving…….surrounded and inspired by the scenery and wildlife I love.
